Ginger cocktails

Moscow Mule

1 1/2 oz. vodka
1 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. soda water

Combine vodka, syrup and lime juice over ice in a copper mug or highball glass.  Add 4 oz. soda water, mix lightly and serve.

 

Kentucky Mule

1 1/2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. soda water

Combine vodka, syrup and lime juice over ice in a copper mug or highball glass.  Add 4 oz. soda water, mix lightly and serve.

 

Summer Garden Mule

10  blueberries
6 mint leaves
1 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. soda water

Muddle blueberries and mint with syrup in a cocktail shaker.  Add ice, vodka and lime juice.  Shake until very cold and strain over ice into a copper mug or highball glass.  Add soda, mix gently and enjoy.

 

Cider Mule

1 oz. brandy or calvados
1 oz. ginger syrup
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
2 oz. hard cider
2 oz. soda water

Combine all ingredients over ice in a copper mug or highball glass, mix gently and enjoy.

 

Kentucky Buck

2-3 strawberries, quartered
1 oz. ginger syrup
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
3/4 oz. lemon juice
2 oz. soda water
strawberry slice, for garnish

Muddle the strawberries with the syrup in a cocktail shaker.  Add bourbon, lemon juice and ice.  Shake until very cold and strain into a large glass over fresh ice.  Add soda, garnish with strawberry and enjoy.

 

Ginger Phoenix

1 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 oz. date molasses
1 oz. lemon juice
1 1/2 oz. bourbon

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.  Add ice and shake until very cold.  Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and serve.

 

Escape from Alcatraz

wedge of orange
1/2 oz. ginger syrup
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
1/2 oz. lemon juice
long strip of orange peel (for garnish)

Muddle the orange with the syrup in a cocktail shaker.  Add remaining ingredients with ice and shake until very cold.  Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, garnish with orange peel and enjoy.

 

Horse’s Collar

long strip of lemon peel
1 1/2 oz. cognac or brandy
1 oz. ginger syrup
4 oz. soda

Twist the lemon peel into a tight coil to release its flavor and place in a tall glass.  Add brandy, syrup and ice.  Top with soda water, mix gently and serve.

 

Old Man Ginger

two 2″ sprigs of rosemary
1 oz. ginger syrup
2 oz. pear juice
1 1/2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. lemon juice
2-3 oz. soda water

Muddle one piece of rosemary with the syrup in a shaker or pint glass.  Add the gin and both juices; stir briefly and strain into a large glass over ice.  Top with soda, mix lightly and garnish with remaining rosemary.

 

Dark & Stormier

2 oz. dark rum
1 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
3/4 oz. lime juice
6 or 7 hard shakes Bitters Lab
Charred Cedar & Currant bitters
5 oz. soda water

Combine all but soda water over ice in a large glass.  Add soda, mix gently and serve, garnished with lime.

 

Diablo Blanco

1 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 T. honey
1/2 T. black currant jam
2 oz. white tequila
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
3 oz. soda water
lime slice, for garnish

Microwave the syrup with honey in a small glass to dissolve, about 10 seconds.  Pour into a shaker with jam, tequila, and lime juice.  Add ice and shake vigorously.  Strain into a large glass over ice and top with soda.  Mix gently, garnish with lime and enjoy.

 

Ginger Lemon Drop

1 1/2 oz. lemon vodka
1 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
1 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. Grand Marnier
3 oz. soda water

Combine all but soda water over ice in a large glass.  Add soda, mix gently and serve, garnished with lemon.

 

Ginger & Grapefruit Sparkler

1/2 oz. ginger syrup
1 oz. grapefruit juice
3 oz. prosecco

Combine syrup and juice in a chilled champagne glass. Add prosecco, mix gently and serve.

 

Elderflower-Ginger Fizz

1 oz. ginger syrup
1 1/2 oz. Fizzbloom elderflower syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
4 oz. prosecco or champagne

Combine syrups and lemon juice in a large chilled cocktail glass. Top with prosecco, stirring gently to mix. Garnish with a thin slice of lemon.

 

Cranberry Crush

2 oz. light or spiced rum
1 oz. ginger syrup
1 oz. unsweetened 100% cranberry juice
3 oz. soda water

Combine rum, syrup and juice over ice in a large glass.  Top with soda water, mix gently and enjoy.

 

Hot Toddy

1 1/2 oz. brandy or bourbon
1 1/4 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
3″ strip of orange peel
8 oz. very hot water

Combine first four ingredients in a large, warmed mug.  Add hot water, stir and enjoy.

 

Biscoff & Ginger Freeze

1 or 2 scoops french vanilla ice cream
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. ginger syrup
2 or 3 Biscoff/speculoos cookies, crushed

Place the ice cream in a bowl or large mug.  Pour the bourbon and syrup over the ice cream, top with cookies and serve with a spoon.  Or grab two spoons and a friend!

 

Pom Pomme

1 1/2 oz. pomegranate juice
3/4 oz ginger syrup
1 oz. calvados or brandy
4 oz. dry hard cider

Combine juice, syrup and calvados over ice in a cocktail shaker.  Shake until very cold, 10-15 seconds.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass; top with cider and serve.

 

Redhead ‘Rita

2 oz. tequila
1 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
3/4 oz. lime juice
4 oz. soda water

Combine tequila, syrup, and juice over ice in a large glass.  Add soda, mix gently and serve.

 

Mango Ginger Margarita

2 oz. unsweetened mango juice (look for the Philippine brand at Trader Joe’s)
1 oz. ginger syrup
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz. tequila
3/4 oz. Grand Marnier
3 oz. soda water

Combine all but soda water over ice in a large glass.  Top with soda, mix gently and serve.

 

Ginger-Blueberry Smash

10 blueberries
1 oz. ginger syrup
1 oz. lemon juice
1 1/2 oz. lemon vodka

Muddle the blueberries with the syrup in a cocktail shaker.  Add lemon juice, lemon vodka, and crushed ice.  Shake until very cold.  Strain into a rocks glass over ice, garnished with fresh blueberries if desired.

1 1/2 oz. rum
1 oz. ginger syrup
2 oz. pineapple juice
4 oz. soda water

Combine rum, syrup and juice over ice in a large glass.  Add soda water, mix gently and enjoy.
